Mercy Association is a relationship with the community of Sisters of Mercy.
Together individual sisters, local houses, and associates cultivate the
associate's relationship, seek ways to bring about the reign of God, and
collaborate in various aspects of community life and ministry. Mercy
Associates' Handbook 1998

There is notable diversity in
the ways associates are connected to the Mercy community. The desire to further
Catherine McAuley's charism of compassionate service through ministry or in
one's daily life and work, and the opportunities for on-going spiritual growth
are primary features that attract people to Mercy Association.
The Sisters of Mercy through
Mercy Association have been able to reclaim a part of Catherine's dream to
involve persons from all walks of life in caring for God's people. As we move
into the future, Sisters and Associates in the Baltimore Regional Community
continue to envision and explore future directions for continuing the rich
legacy of love and mercy that came to life among Catherine and her first
companions in Ireland, then later within the United States by other outstanding
Mercy churchwomen such as Frances Warde, who established the first Mercy
Hospital in the world in Pittsburgh.
